My MNPS Wellness Wish List:

  • A full-time nurse in every school

  • A counselor for every 250 students

  • Access to 2 free, nutritious meals a day for all students

  • Physical Education and Physical Activity in excess of the state physical activity law (T.C.A. § 49-6-1021) in every school

  • Age-appropriate/relevant health and wellness education for every child, every school year

  • Training for every staff member to recognize and respond to student mental health issues

  • Available support from school psychologists and social workers for all schools

  • In-school Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) checkups/services for all TennCare eligible children

  • Addition of district leader position for Health/Wellness/Physical Education content area, to ensure advocacy and inclusion is equal to that of all other areas of instruction and to reduce the burden on content council leaders and P.E. classroom teachers

  • Greater utilization of already existing “Healthy School Teams” in each school to ensure goals are set and pursued with the full support of administrative leaders
